Hello Vining Community,
The 2018 Vining Art & Poetry Night at the Billerica Public Library may seem like quite a while away on Monday, May 21, 2018, 6-7:30pm but April Vacation isa great time to start or get caught up on a few of the projects for our fun night.
Not familiar with this event? Here is some info:
What:
Students from every grade at the Vining are invited to :
- display their best artwork
- read their favorite poetry
- participate in our reading contest
- enjoy a scavenger hunt and fun activities at the Billerica Public Library
Who:
Every Vining student is welcome even if you do not submit art or poetry. Please come and view Vining artwork, listen to great poetry and enjoy the activities the library offers us this special night.
Those with sports should come for any part of the event that they can make!
THINGS TO ENJOY AT THE EVENT:

- Library Scavenger Hunt
- Make a Bookmark in the Arts & Craft Center
- Try to Win Book Baskets in our Raffle
- Try to Win a Gift Card in our Reading Contest
- Get a new or replacement Membership Library Card
- Face Painting
- Return books with all late fees waived just this night
- Check out a new Book
- All students who come receive a ticket for the book basket raffle – just for coming!

Because this is an event to promote the love for reading, art, poetry and the Billerica Public Library that we are so lucky to have (one of the best around!), we have two reading raffles this year! Raffle Tickets cannot be purchased. Students earn raffle tickets through reading! The more tickets you earn, the better your chances….
1. Book Basket Raffle

- Every student that has or gets a new library membership receives ONE RAFFLE TICKET
- Every student earns ONE RAFFLE TICKET for each book read from April 1st-May 20th. Fill out a reading log and let those tickets add up! READ, READ, READ. (parent signature req.)
Students can win Gift Cards from our sponsor Used Book Superstore in Burlington in the 50 in 50 Challenge
Details: Must read 50 poems and/or short stories
- Every student earns ONE RAFFLE TICKET for each poem and/or short story read from April 1st-May 20th.
- Fill out a 50 in 50 reading log and let those tickets add up!
- READ, READ, READ. (parent signature req.)

All artwork will be on display at the Library for one week. Any artwork can be submitted if it meets the requirements listed below. Your artwork can be a piece created at school or created at home or somewhere else.
- No bigger than 24”x36” for flat artwork (pictures, paintings, sketches, photography, etc.)
- No Glass Frames
- No bigger than 18”x18”x18” for 3D artwork (pottery, dioramas, sculptures)
- Artwork must be completed by the student
- Artwork must be completed between May 2017-May 2018
- Artwork CANNOT contain any food items, per Board of Health regulations
- Artwork must be turned in to the Vining School Office by Thursday, May 17th.

- Please detach and return the form below with your piece of artwork. (Every student can submit both an art submission form and a poetry submission form or just one or the other)
Calling All Vining Poets! This is your opportunity to create an original poem or select a poem by your favorite author to read or recite at the Art & Poetry Night.

- Robert Frost
Every Vining student will have the opportunity to read or recite poetry this evening. If you want to write your own poetry, visit www.gigglepoetry.com for information and inspiration.
