ALICE Drill
What does ALICE mean?
Alert: We will get the word out using clear, concise language and describe the location of the event.
On Wednesday, November 15, 2017 the Vining Elementary School will practice our first ALICE drill of the year.
What does ALICE mean?
Alert: We will get the word out using clear, concise language and describe the location of the event.
Lockdown: This is still a good starting point. We will continue to lockdown students in secure areas, and will increase effectiveness through the use of barricading.
Inform: Keeping the staff and students informed continually allows for good decision making.
Counter: Only to be used as a last resort. In the event an intruder enters an area, do whatever possible to distract, confuse and gain control.
Evacuate: If safe, evacuate the building to get away from potential harm.To prepare our students, classroom teachers explained ALICE utilizing the book titled, I’m Not Scared, I’m Prepared! Because I Know All About ALICE and practiced the protocol prior to the drill. You can find a link to this book at: YouTube - I'm Not Scared, I'm Prepared.
At the elementary level we discuss Counter, but do not practice it.
We are asking that parent/guardians not dismiss students between 8:45am and 9:45am. If your child(ren) needs to be dismissed, please do so either before or after the scheduled drill.
Please contact Mrs. Gibelli if you have any questions.
Coat for Kids
Please consider donating extra gently used winter coats to our Coats for Kids collection. All sizes are welcome. All collected items will be professionally cleaned by Anton's Cleaners and distributed to local families. Caring Partners Inc. is asking that you do not donate any vests, sweatshirts, hats/gloves, or snowpants. Thank you in advance for your generosity.
Candy Collection
Thank you for your generosity in donating all of your Halloween Candy. Last Thursday, our Student Council students were able to sort and package the candy for delivery.
